Yes — EireID is completely free for individuals. There are no subscriptions, no credit card required, and no hidden fees. Businesses that integrate EireID for verification have their own plans, but for everyday users the app is always free.

Your identity data never leaves your device. EireID stores your credentials in your phone's secure enclave — the same hardware-level chip used by Apple Pay and Google Pay. We don't hold copies of your documents on any central server.

Not yet — but that's the goal. EireID currently works alongside your physical documents, making day-to-day verification faster and easier. As Irish legislation catches up with digital identity standards, full legal equivalence is on our roadmap.

Only what you choose to share. If a venue needs to confirm you're over 18, they get a yes or no — not your date of birth, name, or address. This is called selective disclosure, and every share requires your explicit confirmation in the app.

Yes, for most everyday checks. Your credentials contain a cryptographic signature that can be verified offline via QR code — useful in areas with poor signal. High-security actions like signing legal documents still require a connection.

Absolutely. EireID is built for everyone living in Ireland. EU/EEA citizens and non-EEA nationals with a valid Irish Residence Permit (IRP) can store and present their credentials through EireID — making it easier to prove identity, right to work, and residency status.
